Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sharp Aquos BDHP21U 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Customer Review: Sharp Blu-ray player
Summary: 4 Stars

Since this a entry level blu-ray player, I read up on all of the positives and negatives of this model. The first couple of blu=rays I bought- no problem. Then I tried the T2-Skynet Edition and it wouldn't play. After downloading the firmware update from the Sharp website, though, and installing it in the player-no issues. It also brings a real crispness and clarity to my standard dvds. Avery good buy, for the money.

Customer Review: Extremely Slow on Some Discs
Summary: 1 Stars

I received this unit through a special purchase at a non-Amazon dealer and I am extremely unhappy with it. I bought the Blu-Ray release of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse which has forced trailers at the beginning as many discs do now. The Menu button doesn't work during the trailers but I can press NEXT to skip to the next trailer once the current one starts playing. There are several of these forced trailers and each time I press NEXT I have to wait for upwards of a minute before the next one starts playing before I can press NEXT again. From the time that I inserted the disc, it took 5 - 7 minutes before I was able to start playing an episode. Even when I selected an episode from the menu, it seemed to take forever before the episode started playing. Why is this thing so slow? The screen goes dark during this process too and I thought it had locked up on me several times until I just realized that it was just really slow. I even upgraded the firmware from Sharp and it didn't help. A quick call to Sharp's technical service basically indicated that I had made a bad choice in purchasing this. They were very nice and quick to respond but ultimately it is just a poor product that I'm surprised would carry the Sharp name. Shipping and restocking fees are too expensive to return so I'll probably just use it for regular DVD's in a different room or just give it to a friend. I suppose it'd be okay for playing DVD's but you have to have extreme patience if you want to watch Blu-Ray discs,

Customer Review: very good blu-ray player
Summary: 4 Stars

This a very good and decent blu-ray player. It's very easy use and displays great HD picture from blu-ray movies near HD for standard DVDs. Overall, a recommended player but there might be better players out there that might be worth it.

Customer Review: Stay Away
Summary: 1 Stars

If you value your sanity, do NOT buy this player. Google "Sharp blu ray" and "incompatible disc" or "firmware update" and you will see the extent of the problem. This player is a loathsome scar on the face of the blu ray industry. Try a Sony player instead.

Customer Review: Sucks
Summary: 2 Stars

It is a pain to use. It you stop in the middle of a movie or somewhere in the TV series, when you come back to it later if the power has been turn off, the disk starts from the very begining. I would not have bought Sharp if I had known that their players where like this. It makes it a pain to use.
