Big and bright might make you uncomfortable in sleeping. It is perfect for my eyesight without eye glasses lying on the bed.
It is the exact same clock(no name and still running strong) I bought years ago without Sharp name on it. Can not comment on the alarm functions, since I am light sleeper and am sensitive to the day light and noise. Can not comment on the backup function too, since we have single digit times of power outages in the last 20+ years here in the S. Cal. The whole reason to use this clock is to forget about changing batteries. I am glad I bought this Sharp version for my kid who also wears eye glassess by ignoring those bad reviews. YMMV. For $12.99, I am willing to chance it and throw it away.

The Sharp 1.8" red LED clock with swivel case design features a hi-low alarm and dimmer It has a battery back-up, snooze and a silver case.The Sharp SPC033D Red LED Alarm Clock with Swivel Case gives you the option of viewing the 1.8-inch LED display from most anywhere in the room. With a top display that swivels 90 degrees on its pedestal base, you can adjust the clock's face according to your movements in the room. Designed with a silver case with a red lens cover, the Sharp SPC033D features easy-to-use control settings on the case back, a hi-lo alarm volume switch, and a hi-lo dimmer switch for display brightness. A snooze function allows you to catch a few extra minutes of sleep every morning, and the battery backup feature (requires one nine-volt battery not included) means that you never have to worry about a power outage while you're sleeping. Sharp backs this clock up with a limited two year warranty.
